Sorrow

My regularly scheduled post has been cancelled.  My heart, mind, thoughts, and deep love go out to all who are suffering from today's horrific event.    Those of us who work in schools know that this kind of thing is possible, but we never believe it will happen to us.  And, today, sadly, our myths were shattered once again.

News is still chaotic but I hear that teachers and staff protected and saved some children, and for that, I am thankful and proud.  But still, my heart goes out to all the children who died, their futures snuffed, in this senseless killing.

We will grieve together as a nation for all the children lost.

  1. We will grieve and then probably just go on, doing nothing to protect our children, our teens, all of us, from gun violence and from inadequately treated mental illness....breast cancer is nothing compared to the slaughter of innocents....

    1. Does breast cancer not claim the lives of innocents too? What a thoughtless and heartless comment.

    2. Your twisted logic is disgusting. How and why would you try to take Ann's comments as anything other than a human being showing her shock, horror and sympathy toward these innocent victims and families?

This isn't a contest on whose situation is worse; both are tragedies.

  2. I don't believe in politicizing tragedies like this. Today in China 22 kids were wounded by a knife attack. Crazy people do crazy things. The #1 mass shooting was in Norway, a low firearm country.

Also - considering I am dying in front of my children - am not going to say breast cancer is nothing. Clearly, for my family and children, it is something and they will suffer the way these families are. Not sure why anybody would say something like that on the site of a person suffering from a terminal illness.

I think that rather than do comparisons, justifications, guesswork and judgments, we should just be simply and deeply sympathetic for the families involved today. If a way comes out that will truly help any of them in need that I can verify, I will post it.

My death, and the death of other women dying of breast cancer, is also tragic, although certainly the death of children means a loss of hope.

    1. Well said Ann! Thank you for not getting political and simply stating your sympathies for the children, families, teachers & friends of those lost. I join you in that sentiment.
