That is what we say to newbies on the cancer boards. Women do searches about breast lumps, find the cancer communities, and post their story about finding a lump or having a mammogram that needs additional imaging. Their mind jumps straight to cancer, and we - who had cancer - reassure them. "The odds are with you. Even if you have a biopsy, 80% of them are benign."
And, it's true - most of them we never see again once their additional tests are done.
And, that is what I'm telling myself now.
Apparently, the mammogram I had last week requires a closer look. So, Tuesday, the 13th, I will have another diagnostic mammogram and an ultrasound.
"It's probably nothing. You'll be fine. Don't worry until you know for sure. Try to relax, you'll be okay."
Easy to say, not quite as easy to do.

sorry to hear you have more testing in front of you. I bet they're being extra-vigilant, and this indeed will be B-9. Hang in there!
ReplyDeletepassing you strong hugs and no worries!
ReplyDeleteSending thoughts your way. I just had a biopsy that was b-9, but then they found two more lumps of concern at the post op appointment. Warm fuzzies coming your way and lots of good thoughts and prayer.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll be fine Ann. I was stage 2B Her2+ three years ago this August. I had a single mastectomy with no reconstruction while I completed chemo, radiation, and herceptin. I had to have a routine mamo on my remaining saggy breast, what a nightmare amidst this time. THey had to have several looks and ultrasound, etc....all painfully mind-boggling. I had had enough, and had the other breast removed when I began reconstruction...and am I ever glad I did; no guarantees, but no more mamos either and a very balanced recontruction. The plastic surgeon did a beautiful job with a LAT flap on only one side and of course implants and now I am a 32C+ and even with a swimsuit top on, you would never notice...I am 46 and can wear my teenage daughter's tops! Best of luck and food for thought.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
I'm sending all sorts of good thoughts to you. Its never easy to hear you have another lump... I had a benign one at the end of chemo that freaked me out. I hope it goes well.
ReplyDeleteHang in there. My prayers are with you.............
ReplyDeleteThis may be a repeat. My prayers are with you and hang in there and btw LOVE your hair...........Betty
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm sure they are just taking a second look out of an abundance of caution. It's still very unnerving, but I'll be okay.
ReplyDeleteWish I understood the medical establishments where women have mammo and have to go back a week or more later. I was treated at Mayo where mammos are read immediately and any extras done right away. I had mammo, second mammo, ultrasound and biopsy and prelim dx all on same day. doesn't change anythinig, but no waiting was for me, a blessing. Wishing you the best, you've got the odds on your side.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point, anonymous, and one I'm going to address with my doctors. I think from now on we should cut to the chase, and get straight to the diagnostics and sonogram and skip regular mammograms. I earned it! If the diagnostics do show something, then it's another week for a biopsy....not that I'm in a rush, knowing what happens then.
ReplyDeleteI am almost five years out and have had two 'scares'. The first was after a routine mammogram, the second time after an MRI (also 'routine'). Both times the 'areas of concern' were biopsied and both times the results were B-9. I hope the same will be true for you.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers your way, Ann. I've had some repeat "pictures" done after routine mammograms were unclear. Very unnerving, but all were okay, and I am hopeful yours will be, too.
